West Ham Fans were having a laugh about Everton relegation
I did quite a lot of articles last year on the site, including some transfer news from various sources and newspapers. One story we ran was from an article in France Football and was promoted in a few other places and was about some transfer news on Mohammed Diame and proposed interest of Everton.
I think the story was a couple of months after the Olympic stadium was announced to be going to West Ham using tax payers money and they were getting touted to be buying some top players, including some chap called Andy Carroll who used to be a footballer. It was also around a week after Roberto Martinez was named Everton manager,
This story stuck in my head, not for the fact the transfer never happened or the rumours of a really low release clause, it was because of some of the comments from West Ham fans which brought about a little chuckle.
The Hammers fans were giving Everton pelters, basically saying West Ham were a club on the up and had a fantastic new stadium and Everton were a club only going down, would be bottom 6 and have a rubbish manager.
I don’t know what the West Ham fans were thinking. This is a club that although it has a wonderful history and is a brilliant away day, they have never won the top division title. A title that Everton have won 9 times. This is a club that has won 3 FA Cups to Evertons 5. This is a club that has yo-yo’d in and out of the Premier League since it started.
West Ham have a long history
The last 20 years have been quite bad for Everton. We are used to winning trophies and league titles. We were the Merseyside millionnaires. We are slowly getting back closer to where we belong, but what would be seen as success to West Ham (getting top 6), is still seen as a failure to a large proportion of Everton fans.
I’d love to get the thoughts of those West Ham fans who commented on that story. Here are some of the best comments from that original story:
Bubbles: Why would he leave a team on the up for a team of losers with a bottom 6 place to look forward to . ???????????
Northern Hammer: Another lazy “news” story…. Think about it… Merseyside over London?? nope…. Everton…. erm… no money..club for sale…bad relationship with new manager…. nope.. Bigger club..don’t make me laugh.. New era for an over achieving side…. Martinez isn’t Moyes… any astute player will sit and wait to see what happens next..Diame plays tonight vs Bournemouth.. and will be playing vs Cardiff on the opening day.. If Diame were to leave… why would he chose to lessen his profile… Redknapp will be linked next…
Ed: why an earth would he go back to working under martinez.. ive got nothing against everton and im not having a pop at them, but i really feel they will be fighting relegation this year. surely diame doesnt want to be messing around at the bottom of the table again..? either way, it would a great signing for them, and a huge problem for us if he goes
Arteee: Olympic Stadium or one falling to bits? Team on the up or team faltering?
No contest. Hammers every time.Arteee: Everton are a terrible team supported by Liverpool rejects.
Leo: Why would he want to go everton. That is no offence to you evertonians. I just feel that west ham and everton will be floating around the same area in the league table next year. If he goes surely he would want european football?
Phil: A doctor is on his way to help you…
PT: Why would he join a club on the way down?
I did like this comment from Whisky Dave though : us west ham fans will be very sorry to see the lad go. But if it helps you to jump all over lfc god speed
Jase did help the Hammers come good though: Cmon, I am a West Ham fan and do not have a bad word to say about Everton. Diame wont go there FACT. but to say that Everton are relegation candidates is utter shite! They were always up there under Moyes, and i am sure they will be up there somewhere this term, but on the other hand for Everton fans to call us shite is ridiculous too, I am quietly confident we will improve on last years finish.
I would love to get an updated opinion from West Ham fans. Ravel Morrison is obviously top quality, but who else do you see taking you to the top? For the record, I like West Ham. They are a proper club with decent fans on the whole and wish them all the best for the season, but some of these comments did make me chuckle.
Come and have your say on this at www.theevertonforum.com
I agree real club, great history, real prospects, now they’ve got a new stadium. What they need now is a manager who will move them on. Big Sam will always create teams that are hard to break down and resilient otherwise quite uninspiring. The Magpies knew that and got rid.He revolutionised Bolton, but came to grinding halt.Did nothing at Blackburn,or Newcastle and is now repeating that
formula with the ‘Ammers.
